New York City

My Story

I was 18 years old, and 6 1/2 months pregnant while working at 2 World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.  I worked on the 92nd floor and managed to survive walking through the impact zone to what I thought was safety. Upon exiting the building, I learned that the world outside was no longer the safe world I left.

Not only was my life changed that day, but everyone’s life was impacted.

Trying to find help with my mental health post 9/11 in New York was difficult because we were all traumatized. But finding mental help in Texas was harder. I felt as though no one could help me grasp the concept of what happened and help me get back to the Me, I was pre-9/11.

I started searching for ways to help myself. I eventually became a mental health counselor and started breaking down what it means to be depressed, anxious, or traumatized. I started finding ways to make mental health make sense, so it doesn’t seem intangible.
